How will new technological innovations shape our future?
The idea of new technologies can be a scary prospect. Looking back over the past Century it is evident just how much has changed. The introduction of the internet, television and mobile phones has enabled us to live with a far more comfortable lifestyle. It is often hard to imagine what the world will be like in a hundred years’ time. Will we all still look human or will robots have taken over? All new innovative technologies have pros and cons attached but how will they transform and shape our future?
There is constant progression in medical research and technologies. Biotechnology, cognitive science and genetics are constantly making exciting progressions in the world of science. One of the most promising new technologies, though, seems to be Nanotechnology. Heart-attack monitors are also a new technology that is currently being developed. They are implanted in items of clothing and can detect when a heart attack occurs. With GPS they can track where you are and in turn reduce the amount of time it takes to seek medical attention. These are just a few of many technologies that are developing in the medical world. This successful progress could see us combating disasters such as poverty, hunger and disease within the next one hundred years and in turn prolonging the average humans lifetime.
Aside from medical research technologies are progressing in other areas of society. In my lifetime I have seen interactive whiteboards evolve from blackboards. This was a massive innovation success and has significantly improved the teaching techniques in schools.
Recently ‘Apple’ brought out the iPhone 5. Although the new attributes were kept very secret, this didn’t prevent lots of people making predictions about what they expected it to be like. One idea that really stood out was the concept of a visual 3- Dimensional hologram of the person when you ring them. This would make it a lot like they were in the room with you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n83XjFSSvM&feature=related This type of technology is on the brink of becoming feasible so maybe it will become readily available within the next ten years, as opposed to the next 100. Other products such as the iPad and iPod, have really given new technology a whole new focus. But how will we be living in the future?
In a virtual world perhaps? No-one would need to leave their homes and with the development of e-commerce, no-one needs to now really! Will we all be couch potatoes with no self-awareness or ability to socialise physically with others? Essentially what has happened over the past few decades has enabled us to do work that would have taken us a week to complete, in a day. We have to learn a lot faster and do more a lot more quickly. Maybe this will follow through into the future and what would have taken us a day will take us an hour. There is a lot of potential for the upcoming generations when you consider how far technology has brought us in just 40 years or so. The internet has opened a whole new world for marketing and maybe this will continue to expand and evolve into new marketing techniques. The possibilities are endless.
